Aglianico

An ancient Italian varietal grown first by Classical Greeks and Phoceans, Aglianico is a smoke and spice red that will whisk you back to antiquity. Young Aglianico is highly tannic and needs a few years before drinkability—and, even then, needs decanting for a couple hours. Also known as "Aglianico di Taurasi" or simply "Taurasi."
